Pink lipstick with a bit of shine and moisture gives a natural pop. It looks modern and more youthful than a dark, thick swipe of matte burgundy or red, said Jason Hoffman, lead principal artist for Shu Uemura. "Anything you can do to make the skin look fresh and glowing takes years off,” he said. Who knew lipstick could make a woman look more youthful — or older? Charla Krupp, author of "How Not to Look Old,” said dark lipstick can be aging. It tends to seep into fine lines around your lips and draws attention to any other darkness on your face.

The other day when in Valletta I noticed that just one shop was really buzzing. There were so many people in there I thought they had a big sale on – something like 90 per cent discount – but they hadn’t. I went inside. It’s a shop that sells cheap and cheerful fashion jewellery. This shop, on the main street, has been there for a couple of years, but I have never seen it so full. I had to fight my way inside. When I turned round, some woman got an eyeful of my shoulder-bag and let rip. People were riffling through the racks.

With so many anti-aging foundations available it can sometimes be tricky as to which is the best one for you. Depending on your skin type, complexion, and your own personal needs, it’s important to take as much time in order to choose the best product. Especially if you are a gal who wears foundation everyday, since this is the canvas you are creating before applying any color to your face. Most anti-aging formulas have anti-aging properties that are designed to improve the look of the skin like Tarte’s ReCreate.

WOMEN are kissing goodbye to their traditional answer to hard times in favour of flawless skin. It has long been argued that during an economic recession, women buy more lipstick as a relatively cheap pick-me-up. But now cosmetic experts have claimed that British females are far more likely to plump for foundation. The chairman of cosmetics group Estée Lauder, coined the term "Lipstick Index" during the 2001 recession to highlight the link between economic downturns and lipstick sales.

For summer 2009, Vivienne Westwood - one-time queen of punk - sent her models down the catwalk with an uncompromising slash of black across their lips. Last season, the same look was in evidence at YSL, Giles and Tao. Black lips are an extreme motif that has flitted itsway across the shows of some of fashion's most adventurous and influential designers; a sign of dissent against traditional notions of beauty. At the end of 2006, I started wearing black lipstick.
