Minister of the Interior Liao Liou-yi has donated part of his salary to help compensate for losses incurred by the government-issued shopping voucher program that was launched Jan. 18 to spur domestic spending, the Ministry of the Interior (MOI) said yesterday. The formation of a dedicated body is being considered to co-ordinate tree management work and deal with tree-related problems, Chief Secretary for Administration Henry Tang says. He told reporters today the move has been tabled in a tree management review which will end in June. Other measures being considered are inviting local and overseas experts to consult on tree management and risk assessment, increasing staff training and support facilities, and enhancing the co-ordination mechanism for various departments responsible for tree care.

A canoeist has found the body of a young girl on Queensland's Sunshine Coast, nearly 15km downstream from the weir she was swept over in floodwaters. Brandi Allen was swimming with friends at the weir on the Caboolture River when the current dragged her over the wall on Monday afternoon. The 12-year-old disappeared in the turbulent water. Her body was found on Wednesday afternoon.
