Alcoa shares were down modestly after hours following a worse than expected first-quarter report on weaker metal prices and lower demand for its products. The company reported a 59-cent-per-share loss, excluding charges. Analysts were expecting a loss of 56 cents per share. Alcoa expects the weakness to continue. It's the first of the blue chips to report this season.
