I have been an esthetician for 15 years. I also have three teenagers. So I think I have a little insight about waxing and teens.
I have to say I have been quite surprised how both my daughter and sons have been so accepting of waxing. I think more and more kids these days have an aversion to hair. My daughter was the last of my kids to get waxed even though she was the first to be asked by me to get her eyebrows done. Both of my sons had no problem with it. My youngest let me wax and pluck completely. Shocked was me!! I used to think the right age was around 15 or 16 because there is a little bit of pain associated with the process. I have since changed my mind. Age seems to be secondary now. I believe boys and girls alike are interested more today than ever in manicuring themselves.
Now...I have a huge opinion about going to nail salons for waxing. I would never ever take my kids to those places for something as truly serious as waxing a childs face. As I have grown in this business, my clients have told me story after story after story about how their brows have been ruined, ends ripped off, skin removed or incomplete service mostly by the nail salons they go to. I have sat in a pedicure chair and viewed the process byself. They literally took three minutes to apply and remove the wax and then they were done...Why would you want someone to spend only 3 minutes on your brows. Especially my own childs brows. So here are my tips for getting the proper brow wax for you and your child:
1. Ask your good friends for a recommendation 2. Don't let price stop you from a good recommendation 3. Find out how many people go to the salon recommended. The more people, the more practice. 4. Prepare your tween for the process 5. Don't let your kids pluck inbetween services. Keeps the brow in tip/top shape. 6. Stay positive...it is not scary or incredibly painful if done properly and professionally. 7. Properly waxed brows make make-up look better. 8. $20 to $30 is a fair price for a good job
Lastly, an eyebrow wax should take a minimun of 10 to 15 minutes. Aside from waxing, you should receive a trim, grooming the line of the brow by plucking, a little highlighter under the arch of the brow and, finally, a lite touch of brow powder to finish.
